A demonic possession jumps from person to person to catch up with its “girlfriend” Luz (Luana Velis), a blasphemous Chilean cab driver and talented amateur full-trance medium who needs serious work on her magic circle technique. The movie is Luz (2018). You don’t want to miss it.
Wunderkind writer/director Tilman Singer hasn’t fully stopped being an insufferable film student, and he’s not in any mood to guide his audience through the story. David Lynch doesn’t do it, so why should he? And it doesn’t help that the dialogue is in three different languages, often in the same scene (which Singer mines for some impish comedy like the early Lars von Trier). But if you’re willing to give it your undivided attention, it doesn’t stop rewarding your effort. And the cast from top to bottom is exceptional.
