The ghost of murdered murderer Freddy Krueger (Robert Englund) attacks his teenage victims in their dreams. It’s a clever idea unevenly executed, with effective gore and sparkling character interplay and ineffectual gore and inexplicable character interplay. A good horror movie is trying to claw its way out, but a bad horror movie keeps dragging it down. Get a load of teen Johnny Depp, though. Just don’t ask too many plot questions. Directed by Wes Craven.
